The Role: Secondary Class Teacher (ECT‑Suitable)
​
We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and resilient secondary teacher to lead a small mixed‑ability class (KS3) of around 5-6 pupils. You will teach across the curriculum, supported by experienced teaching assistants, while playing a key pastoral role in helping pupils grow socially, emotionally and academically.
You will be teaching within our lower age range and supporting learners who will be working below age‑related expectations and require a highly nurturing, adaptive approach.
Although this role is suitable for Early Career Teachers, we maintain high expectations of professional conduct, reflective practice and commitment to high‑quality teaching, supported by a strong ECT mentoring programme.
You will also begin working towards curriculum leadership responsibilities once qualified developing your subject area over time as your confidence and practice grow.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning
-
Teach across the curriculum to a small secondary class.
-
Plan, prepare and deliver differentiated learning experiences for pupils with SEMH needs.
-
Deliver creative, engaging lessons to re‑engage learners.
-
Build strong, trusting relationships to support social, emotional and academic development.
-
Create and maintain a positive, structured, trauma‑informed classroom environment.
-
Track progress, assess learning and contribute to review processes.

Pastoral Care
-
Provide daily pastoral oversight for your class.
-
Contribute to mentoring and personal development activities.
-
Support wellbeing, behaviour, attendance and transitions.
-
Liaise with families and external professionals as required.
​
Essential Experience & Qualities
-
Working towards completion of the 2‑year ECT programme.
-
Evidence of meeting the Teacher Standards.
-
Successful teaching practice in two or more secondary settings.
-
Ability to teach across the curriculum.
-
Strong communication, organisation and behaviour‑management skills.
-
Commitment to safeguarding and professional growth.
-
Full manual driving license

Desirable Experience & Qualities

QTS
-
Experience in SEMH/SEND or alternative provision.
-
Wider school involvement (e.g., tutoring, mentoring).
-
Familiarity with ASDAN or the Duke of Edinburgh programme.
